The College of West Anglia’s media department have been working for the last year on the launch of a groundbreaking internet TV station. This is designed to bring about a rapid change in the way media students learn their subject whilst simultaneously preparing them for a career in the media business.
The channel – the region’s first – will enable students to get real experience of the media industry whilst gaining a vocational qualification. The college has invested heavily in new technology and recently opened its own fully HD broadcast quality studio at its Kings Lynn campus.
A wide range of content will be produced by learners under the guidance of skilled media professionals. The station though will be ‘owned’ by the learners and they will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own content and work co-operatively in a ‘community of learning’. This project will promote opportunities, celebrate achievement and support teaching and learning across current and developing curricula.
The site is a work in progress and as our students develop their skills throughout their course you expect to see the site develop too. The post project vision is to sustain and extend the resource to address the needs of the wider community, of which the college is at the heart, to raise aspirations and inspire achievement.
